ISSUE DATE: May 2006

Maybe you've had the experience or can relate to it. You can see the great vision of what lies ahead for you. You have a magnificent goal that you're excited about. You feel passionate about it. You may even have a strong sense that you're being guided to your future by some extraordinary force. You may not know how you'll get there, but you have a belief, a knowingness, a sense of certainty that you will arrive.

And then, in what seems like the blink of an eye, your enthusiasm is gone, you're not moving forward, and you begin to tell yourself it wasn't really that important after all. Before you even know it you're stuck, back doing the same things you've always done, and feeling like you lost part of your dream.

You may even ask yourself, WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED???

When we are in overwhelm - from things that seem too big for the mind to handle whether they're "good" or "bad" - a fear response is triggered. Associated with a wide variety of stress factors, the primary initial brain response to fear is that the blood supply moves from the forebrain, where intelligent thinking takes place, to the rear brain, where our body becomes prepared for the primal fight-flight response for survival.

In those moments, we literally become less intelligent.

Like deer in the headlights, we become paralyzed by fear and unable to move in any direction.

This is a default behavior pattern for survival. Overwhelm, experienced as fear, leads to procrastination, which leads to paralysis. We feel stuck.

This is not the time to give up or to give in. This is time to take action and allow your brain cells to literally recover so you can think clearly and respond intelligently, rather than react out of habit.

Now, the truth is this may be a time to revisit your goal or your vision, reflecting on the feelings you have in the present when you consider what you have chosen.

Does this choice, this vision, this goal still inspire and delight and excite you?

If not, PAUSE, take some time to rest, restore and renew. Then simply allow your new vision to become clear or revise your old one to meet your new perspective. Remember, there is no need to rush on the creative plane. Stay calm, stay centered and simply choose again.

If your goal still stirs passion and is on purpose with your life, first rest and restore your physical body, renew your passion for your vision, and then take some action steps that I'll discuss in a moment.

Revisit. Reflect. Revise, if necessary. Renew.

And on a practical level here are some steps you can take to begin to move forward to the life you love to live:

1. If your vision, your goal, or the project in front of you is overwhelming, CHUNK IT DOWN into bite-sized, or manageable, pieces. Rome wasn't built in a day, and no one gets up on the stage to collect their Oscar without some footwork. Allow yourself to realize your vision will be reached one step at a time, one piece at a time, and it is perfectly fine to allow your mind to focus on one task at a time as well. For example, if you are choosing to create a beautiful backyard space, you may choose to chunk it down into one pot and one plant at a time.

2. SET YOUR INTENTION to be a success in whatever you choose to do.

3. Whatever your DAILY HABITS are, stick to them to set a solid foundation for success. Whether your habits include meditation, visualization, affirmations, exercise, journaling, chanting, prayer, or something else, create a pattern that will allow your mind to relax into the rhythm of life and living. Honoring these daily habits is an active confirmation that you are committed to supporting yourself as you move forward in your life.

4. FOCUS your vision with your chunked-down perspective in mind. Remember, your mind is visual and will create based on what you are feeding it. Hold to that vision so that you can feel it, taste it, see it, smell it, hear it, sense it as if it has already happened. With this, you are preparing your mind and your entire being by creating an effective roadmap for success.

5. Choose a MANTRA, a word or phrase that you can identify with your vision, and repeat it frequently throughout each day. Any strong belief you have now is something you have heard repeatedly and gone over many times in your mind, and the same principle applies when you are creating a new reality. Your mantra can be simple, and should create a sensation of excitement within you. Remember, JK Rowling's mantra when she was writing the Harry Potter series was simply "instant fame and fortune". 4 simple words. Yours may be as simple as "This IS my time!" or "I CAN have it all!" Whatever you choose, repeat it often.

6. Take consistent ACTIONS that move you forward towards your goal. Here's an area where small things really count. We know from the Butterfly Effect from Chaos Theory in Quantum Physics that even the smallest action can have a great effect in the world. In fact, the Butterfly Effect refers to the idea that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in one part of the world can cause a tornado on the other side of the globe. With each small step you take forward you are building momentum, and success breeds success.

7. COMPLETE. Follow through and complete what you begin. The Universe loves completion and you will no longer be taking up unnecessary space in your mind with the ideas of unfinished work that needs to be done. Give yourself this gift.

8. CELEBRATE your successes - each and every step, thought, feeling and action that you take. Give yourself the endorsements that will propel you to continue to think, say, and do the things each and every day that allow you to consciously create the life you love to live full of joy, prosperity, passion, purpose, health, peace, happiness, abundance, and freedom!

YOU deserve it!

To your wealth and success,

If you or someone you know is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disease (PTSD) and you're looking for a different option, there's a holistic healing opportunity that I want to share that may open new doors of possibilities.

It's estimated that hundreds of thousands currently suffer from the debilitating effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), not counting our currently returning servicemen and women. Human Potential researcher, Margrit Spear, PhD/MFT, has created an alternative, guided-visualization (via CD) approach to assist returning military service personnel, and others suffering from PTSD. 30 volunteers who meet the physiological/psychological profile will be selected for this innovative pilot program. Study is focusing primarily on returning veterans, but all persons who suffer from this debilitating but treatable affliction will be considered.

Study participants are asked to faithfully listen to the specially created CD for 38 minutes, twice per day for 30 days. Some early results have been dramatic. Selectees are required to post a $20 security deposit, which is returned upon test completion and feedback report submission. And all test participants get to keep the CD.
