ISSUE DATE: April 2007

Driving home from my favorite restaurant, I read the sign on the back of the bus in front of me: THINK RESPONSIBLY.

Now, it immediately hit me as a brilliant take off on all the alcoholic beverage commercials that encourage us to Drink Responsibly. Yet, more than that, the message of how essential it is for us to take responsibility for our thoughts was like a home coming.

(And, before I forget, special thanks to the folks at KNX 1070 for sharing this wisdom with us all.)

So, my question is this: Are YOU thinking responsibly?

As conscious creators, we know that what we think leads to our emotions, our emotions lead to our actions, and our actions lead to the results we see in our lives. What we think, say, and do determines our destiny.

When we purposefully shift our thoughts patterns, we create new thought habits and new neural pathways. As we tap into the power of the law of repetition, we build and strengthen the muscles of our mind to be more productive and powerful on our behalf in the creative realms.

This idea often brings to mind, for me, what I consider to be one of the best lines by Russell Crowe as he played Dr. John Nash in the movie A Beautiful Mind: "Like a diet of the mind, I choose not to indulge certain appetites."

This may seem like an enormous task for some of you, and yet it is an essential step that we all can benefit by applying.

It is your right, and it is your responsibility.

In The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace Wattles is very clear: "Every individual has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To think according to appearances is easy; to think truth regardless of appearances is laborious and requires the expenditure of more power than any other work we are called upon to perform."

"There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought. It is the hardest work in the world. This is especially true when truth is contrary to appearances."

To live consciously and take control of your life, you must go beyond what you see with the visible eye. Remember, "seeing is believing" is not the truth. What you believe is what you see expressed in the world around you.

So, start today to develop the thought habits that will serve you well in creating the life you love to live as you step fully into the knowing, the certainty, that we live in a rich, prosperous, abundant Universe that generously provides for your every need and desire.

It is all up to you based on what you choose. Begin to Think Responsibly from this moment forward and you'll be amazed and delighted at all the wonderful ways you'll be rewarded.

Here are some tips to support you in the days and weeks to come:

1. EXPECT the best. What we expect is what we get.

2. ELIMINATE or greatly reduce negativity. Free yourself of the habits of gossip and complaining. As a matter of fact, go out of your way to say nice things to other people and continually endorse yourself with kind, loving, and positive thoughts about your Self.

While we're at it, give yourself a break from anyone who indulges themselves in negativity. As Wallace Wattles recommends in The Science of Well-Being, "When you are in the company of people whose conversational stock-in-trade is sickness and like matters, ignore what they say and fall to offering a mental prayer of gratitude for your perfect health. And if that does not enable you to shut out their thoughts, say good-bye and leave them. No matter what they think or say; politeness does not require you to permit yourself to be poisoned by diseased or perverted thought."

3. STOP CRITICIZING AND BLAMING other people. These actions put you in the victim role and make you feel powerless.

4. LOOK FOR WHAT'S "RIGHT" in your world. Take your focus entirely off of anything that you may have felt in the past was "wrong". What you seek is what you will find.

5. STOP HAVING CONVERSATIONS with people who aren't in the room. Do not let people or negative thoughts live rent-free in your head.

6. STOP THINKING OR TALKING ABOUT THE PAST. Resentments, a revisiting of past experiences, recreates the experience in your mind, revivifies the experience on every level of your being, and recreates the experience in your life. Give yourself a gift and simply let go.

7. Turn off the television and FEED YOUR MIND POSITIVE THOUGHTS that will prosper you.

8. LET GO of any idea that you have made a "mistake" in the past. A mistake is simply an opportunity to learn and grow. Forgive yourself and learn the lesson.

9. CREATE a powerful, positive vision for your future. List 100 things to be, have, or do. Then, wherever you are, begin to TAKE THE RIGHT ACTIONS that will lead you in the direction of your highest vision. You are on the Journey of your life - unless you start to take the actions, you'll never reach your destination.

10. Consciously CHOOSE each day what you think, say and do. Each morning before you begin your day, set aside some time to choose what you desire to experience that day.

12. Take your mind entirely off of poverty or lack and limitation. FOCUS ON YOUR WORLD as being an active demonstration of the limitless abundance and prosperity of the Universe. Hold that vision and know that truth for everyone else on this planet as well.

Open your arms wide to receive with joy-filled anticipation all the wealth, health, love, success, peace, prosperity, and abundance that IS already yours!

YOU deserve it!

To your wealth and success,

"The law of attraction will certainly and unerringly bring to you the conditions, environment, and experiences in life, corresponding with your habitual, characteristic, predominant mental attitude. Not what you think once in a while when you are in church, or have just read a good book, but your predominant mental attitude is what counts."

"Perhaps you have formed the habit of thinking of yourself as a common person, one with limited ability, or as being more or less a failure. Whatever you habitually think yourself to be, that you are. You must form, NOW, a greater and better habit; you must form a visualization of yourself as being of limitless power, and habitually think that you are of course that person. It is the habitual, not the periodical thought, that decides your destiny."

- Wallace D. Wattles in
The Science Of Becoming Excellent
